Cars in German City Found Marked with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for information.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
